BUILD YOUR SOLAR SYSTEM

Find out which inverter, batteries and panels you need—and how much you could save.

Tell us what you need

System sizes use the inverter’s rated kW. The choices show battery voltage, Hybrid or Off-grid type, and supply phase. Battery storage is selected in kWh below.

Choose your solar panels

We calculate the panel quantity from your chosen wattage, daytime use and battery charging needs, then check the inverter and panel strings.

Choose your battery

We calculate the number of batteries for your backup hours and running load. Choose one brand and model for the bank. New battery products added to our catalogue appear here automatically. Inverters remain LVTOPSUN-only.

Choose an inverter first or let us recommend one. Add your loads and backup hours so we can size the panels and battery bank. Select battery-only backup below if you do not need panels.

1. Your electricity use

No bill available? Choose appliances. Hours mean equivalent time at the entered wattage; cycling appliances need an average.

Your KPLC cost per unit

1 electricity unit = 1 kWh. Use your latest bill or token SMS to include the charges you actually pay.

Use the current month's electricity charges above, including taxes and levies. Exclude arrears, deposits and reconnection fees.

Rate used for this estimateKSh 30.00 / kWh

This is your average energy cost for planning; tariff-category changes, monthly adjustments and commercial demand charges can change actual savings. Find your bill / token details · Kenya Power tariff guidance.

Mostly eveningsMostly daytime

Panels cover daytime electricity use plus a full recharge of the selected battery bank. Your solar target can increase this requirement. Actual savings depend on how much solar you use.

2. Appliances & backup

Search or browse household appliances by category. Add your appliances, enter how many of each will run together, then tick Backup for the ones needed during an outage. Wattages are typical running estimates; edit them using your equipment label. Heating and high-power appliances start with Backup unticked.

This share of usable battery energy is kept out of normal bill-saving use. Full-bank backup assumes the battery starts fully charged.

Fridges and pumps cycle on and off. Enter a measured average for a better battery estimate; otherwise we assume the backup quantities entered under Running together run continuously. Motor starting surges need a technical check.

Panel electrical details & string assumptions

Editable planning assumptions: cold Voc uses the panel coefficient; Vmp uses the entered hot/cold allowances. Current includes rear gain and an additional 25% short-circuit allowance. Array access includes rear gain and 3% power tolerance. Verify the local climate and actual panel revision. Unknown electrical data never receives a confirmed string layout.

Panel pieces = required daily solar energy (Wh) ÷ (panel watts × 4.5 sun hours × 75%). Round up to an even number, then check inverter MPPT voltage, current, power and string limits. A valid string layout may require additional panels.

Without bill or token units, the editable KSh 30/kWh is a planning assumption. 4.5 sun hours is the solar planning assumption, not a location-specific forecast. Panel sizing uses 75% of rated output (25% allowance for losses), even panel counts and enough daily energy for daytime use plus full battery charging. Inverter sizing uses appliances running together plus 25% headroom. Model assumes 90% battery charging efficiency, catalogue depth of discharge where listed (otherwise 90% planning assumption), 92% battery-to-load efficiency and 90% solar shifting efficiency. Exported energy has no assumed value; demand charges are not modelled.
